Position
title: Accounting
Assistant – Payroll/HR
Reports
to: Controller
Overview: Perform a full range of payroll, HR, and benefits administration
for hourly and salaried employees in the busy accounting department of a
55-employee manufacturer of custom interconnect cable assemblies for the
electronics and communications industries.
Responsibilities:
1.
Work with the Kronos timekeeping system and other
sources of data to process payroll biweekly for hourly and salaried
employees using Ceridian payroll software
2.
Liaise with Ceridian on issues relating to their
payroll services and to resolve difficulties
3.
Set up new employee records and files
4.
Prepare and input accounting entries for the
payroll process
5.
Maintain Excel spreadsheets to track employee
lists, vacation entitlement, service awards, and banked overtime, etc.
6.
Work with the department managers to maintain time
and attendance records
7.
Work with the department manager to prepare WCB
reports and issue T4 slips
8.
Maintain records and files for the Accounting
Department
9.
Administer the Kronos timekeeping system
10.
Review invoices from benefits providers and record
employee benefits
11.
Administer payroll deductions and proper taxation
of employee benefits
12.
Administer employee claims for reimbursement of
eligible health and other benefits
13.
Work with department managers and supervisors to
ensure the timely administration of performance appraisals, service
recognition, and pay adjustments
14.
Liaise with employees regarding payroll and
benefits issues
15.
Maintain required payroll documentation including
new-hire checklists, TDI and TDIAB, and Kronos swipe cards, etc.
16.
Any other responsibilities not detailed here but
that could reasonably be expected

Education and Experience Required:
1.
High school diploma equivalent to Canadian grade
12
2.
Effective verbal and written English skills
3.
Post-secondary accounting, payroll, HR, and
benefits courses or certificates (or adequate experience)
4.
Minimum 2 years of payroll/HR/benefits
administration experience
5.
Familiarity with web-based payroll systems,
preferably Ceridian PowerPay
6.
Excellent computer skills, particularly for Excel
and Word (familiarity with SysPro or ERP systems in general is an asset)
7.
General accounting experience
8.
Well-developed analytical, interpersonal, and
communication skills
